The Great Wave

This weekend I framed and hung my copy of Katsushika Hokusai’s “Under the Great Wave Off Kanagawa”. I could sit and look at this print for a long time. I think sometimes life is like this…sometimes you are in the boat…and maybe sometimes, you are the Great Wave.

  1. wow, it looks great! Im also planning to get one some time soon, just don’t know what size I should go for. may I ask where did you get yours and if the colours look right in real life? they look great in the picture!

    • Cześć Gosia, jak sie masz? 🙂

It does look pretty good when framed and hung, especially for the price. The surprise is that I only paid $4 for this poster, and nothing for shipping! I purchased it on Amazon from Pyramid America. It was delivered quickly and was well-packaged. The colors look great in real life. If you are a perfectionist, you will wish that the poster had been printed on a more textured paper perhaps, and the resolution of a printed poster is of course not the same as a meticulous copy of the original. That all said…hey, for $4 it is a really good deal!

Thank you for writing, Gosia! It is good to receive a comment from a real live human being who has actually read my blog! I am Polish on my mother’s side, did some teaching in Zakopane, and am currently the educational advisor for a Polish language and cultural arts organization, so receiving a message from a fellow Polska was extra special! 🙂

      Do widzenia!

  2. Cześć Tom,
haha, What a coincidence! Im glad you were happy to receive my comment! I’m 100% Polish but I moved to England few years back. But wow! $4 is a really good price! I was pretty sure I will have to spend around £30 on it but I guess I didn’t do enough research! Also the colours of some prints were too bright which I though makes it look really fake and cheap. I’m more interested in something that looks a bit older and I feel like the one you bought looks a way better than some of the other ones I was looking at..now I just need to find it in smaller size!
